This month’s book brings back a set of authors from the book I reviewed several months ago called “Crucial Conversations”. In keeping with the topic of managing conflict, this month’s book is aptly called, “Crucial Confrontations” by Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, Ron McMillan, and Al Switzler. After describing what a crucial confrontation is, the book breaks the topic into three distinct parts for the reader. They describe what happens before, during and after a crucial confrontation.
My favorite section was what happens before the crucial confrontation because it addresses the part of the equation around you. What do you do in the lead up to a confrontation and how do you address the possible consequences, intentions and wants involved in the confrontation? The authors provide an easy to remember acronym “CPR” to remember Content, Pattern and Relationship as a means to frame the confrontation in context.
Enjoy the Book!
