While the Colts did not win the Super Bowl this year, they did make the newsletter in a different way. One of the books with a permanent place on my bookshelf is "Season of Life" by Jefferey Marx. Jefferey Marx was a ball boy for the Baltimore Colts when he first met Joe Ehrmann, a former captain of the Baltimore Colts and now an ordained minister. As the book states "Ehrmann is serious about the game of football but even more serious about the purpose of life."
This may seem out of place in a leadership forum, but the reason I like it is because it drives home the point that leading with purpose as a platform to success starts early in life. It starts with how we learn the meaning of relationships, believing in causes bigger than ourselves and accepting responsibility for our actions. The book tells a story of the renewed relationship between the author and the football player as a backdrop to developing the skills that lead to the same values Jim Covert of the Bears spoke of earlier this week.
