...the enemy shows up.

This was an oft-repeated message to my leaders when I was in the military. Not long ago I had the privilege of meeting LTG(Ret) Hal Moore and Mr. Joe Galloway. You may remember them portrayed by Mel Gibson and Barry Pepper respectively in the movie We Were Soldiers Once - And Young. When asked what leadership lesson he took away from his experiences, General Moore simply, and without hesitation stated, "Lead by Example". Real leadership, you see, is leading from the front of the organization where you face the enemy, turn to your organization and, with confidence, say - Follow Me.

Today, the enemy is staggering uncertainty driven by a reeling economy, political positioning and global unrest. Now is the time to take stock of your personal leadership brand and your organization's leadership culture and see who is following.
